Newdog have developed a unique non-ruck whelping mat. We have been producing our unique whelping mat since 2001 and they have sold all over the U.K. We started making the mats after witnessing the behaviour of a bitch digging at the bedding during and after whelping which was causing a huge problem with the puppies disappearing under loose bedding. We discovered that this was the norm and that you, the owner, probably wouldn't sleep for several nights.

This mat for whelping has huge advantages over using a sheet of vet fleece. The mats are made with vet fleece, which is woven to our own specification, as the top layer. This is then stitched in our own factory in Somerset, to a durable waterproof backed polyester material. On one side there is a velcro fastened opening into which is inserted a polyproylene stiffener. The combination of the stitching and stiffener ensures that the mat cannot ruck up.

This ensures the safety of the puppies when Mum decides to try and rearrange the bedding. The mat will stay flat to the floor of the whelping box however much she tries to dig it up.

Apart from keeping the pups safe we are also very aware that the puppies leg muscle development is improved greatly by using this whelping mat. This is due to the fact that the puppies do not have to try and climb mountains before they can even walk properly!!

These mats are made to fit our range of disposable whelping boxes but can also be made to fit your own whelping box, however small, large or strange shape. If you should require a size that will not fit in your washing machine then we can make it as a split mat. This means that it will come in two halves which will be held togther, on the reverse, with velcro.

To wash, simply remove from the whelping box and replace it with a clean one. Remove the insert, from the soiled whelping mat and sponge it down with an anti bacterial cleaning agent and place the fleece outer in the washing machine at 40c. Be very careful not to wash it any hotter than 40c as the fleece is a knitted fabric and can be prone to shrinkage if this is not heeded.It can be dried in a tumble drier, on a low setting, and pull back into shape by inserting the stiffener. Alternatively pull back into shape and line dry and then place the stiffener back in.
